Out of the 6 that were married, 5 of them have children and one of them didn't have children. The one that didn't have children wanted to have children as he wants to continue his family name. The other 5 said they wanted children because life would be boring, one said she love to take of people and babies, another said that her children can accompany her when she grows old and the last person said her children can serve the country as army soldiers when they grow up. Out of the 5 that have children, none wanted to have more children due to many reasons such as already having enough children, there is high cost of living and some still wanted to work even if their children had already grown up.
Out of the 3 that were single, 2 wanted to get married and have children because they want someone or somebody to accompany them when they are bored and solve their problems, if they have any. The last person that was single said that he didn't want to get married and have children because being a parent is a tough job and he is always busy with work.
Many think that the reasons why Singaporeans do not want to have children is because many people have to work and have no time to take care of children, some think that it is because it is very difficult to take care of children while one has pointed out that it may be due to financial or money problems.
Out of the 9 people that were interviewed, 2 said that it would be all right for Singapore if it has a low birthrate as the government has imported a lot of foreign students/workers to Singapore to work and study here. The other 7 said it would be bad for Singapore as the Singapore population will decrease and the government will have a problem as there will not be many teenagers/young adults and there will be increase in the elderly as years go by. One has given the thought that Singapore would later face a bad economy.
When asked the question "What do you think the government will do to encourage Singaporeans to have children?", Almost all of them said that the government would give out money such as baby bonus who are willing to give birth. Some included that the government would give out child care rebate and six month maternity leave for those working mothers.
